Re: Ari Melber, OLC “torture memos”

On MSNBC on Friday, April 17th, The Nation’s Net Movement correspondent Ari Melber advocated for an investigation into the four OLC memos recently released by President Obama. Also known as the “torture memos” they outline the Bush administration’s policies for detention, retention and interrogation. Melber called the memos “chilling,” “disgusting” and downright “un-American” and parried with Republican strategist Chris Wilson, who argued that we “cannot stand back and try to govern the actions of our military during times of war.”

Feminist faces tragedy, fights health care gauntlet

Kate Michelman On Saturday, April 18th, former NARAL president,  author and prominent feminist Kate Michelman discussed her recent Nation article on NPR’s All Things Considered. The piece describes Michelman’s hellish navigation through the US health care system in order to care for her paralyzed daughter and her husband, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Michelman cashed in her IRA but is still struggling to avoid bankruptsy. “It has been a nightmare for the past 6 months,” she said, “You think most will be covered but when most becomes a reality you’re left with thousands of dollars of bills that are not covered.”

Ari Melber responds to Cheney and Rove’s rhetoric

On April 11th, The Nation’s Net Movement correspondent Ari Melber and MSNBC political analyst Joe Watkins discussed the many motives of Karl Rove, namely why he recently called Vice President Joe Biden a liar. According to Melber, Dick Cheney and Rove are performing a classic diversion to  “keep all of us distracted talking about who’s a liar and who attacked instead of keep our eye on the ball.”

Chris Hayes: Paper companies profit on pollution

On April 10, Nation Washington Editor Chris Hayes talked with Steve Curwood, host of Living on Earth, and discussed his recent article on paper companies’ lucrative loophole via the alternative-fuel tax credit system: Burn more fossil fuel, receive more money from the government. Nation Washington Editor talks radio

On April 8th, The Nation’s Washington Editor Chris Hayes appeared on Countdown with Keith Olbermann to discuss the recent call-in of a veteran on Rush Limbaugh’s show. After the Republican veteran criticized the conservative host for supporting torture, a visibly agitated Limbaugh responded by calling him “ignorant” “ludicrous” and “just plain embarrassing.” Good observation.
